Is really, really bad.... Just trying to set expectations to the right level :)

I had read some really bad reviews, so my expectations weren't high, but my god did it fail to reach even those lofty heights... A computer game turned into a movie with implausibilities everywhere. Others I went to see it with liked it mind you, but they seem to remember previous indy movies to be equally stupid... I think its how I enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movie cause I thought the first one was pretty ridiculous anyway.

Anyway there you go. You have been warned :)

I thought it was great. I've watched both Temple of Doom (which really is awful), and Last Crusade recently, and this one was perfectly in line with them.

I liked it, but yeah, it did take a little bit of mental restructuring first. Most of the dialog was pretty cheesy, and the plot seemed shakey at best. But I think it delivered most of the thrills and nostalgia that Indy fans would ask for... no? I don't know. I had a lot of fun, so I don't want to grumble too much. But still I'd rank it as the worst of the series.

If you had never seen Raiders, and you were 12 years old, and that was your first introduction to that particular universe I reckon that KotCS would be right up there as your best movie of the year.

Sadly we have to face it, we're not 12 anymore. We're never going to see Indiana Jones for the first time again.

There was only one part I really hated, the monkeys and the Tarzan bit.

It was an excellent homage to 1950's B movies, aliens and commies all the way. 7.5/10 for what it was.

Yeah, the monkeys bit was just balls... And then the waterfall 3 times was just silly... Once I could have taken in my stride, but they seemed to want to completely blow your suspension of disbelief out of the universe... Its not just indy who's a superhero, here is the whole indy family and friends and they are invulnerable too :) Reminds me of the worst parts of the DC universe :)

I will go see it again, though. I want to like it. I will definitely be watching the trilogy from start to finish when I get home, so see just how silly is was really?

I watched Raiders before going to the new one and it has a lot more charm an, well, sense to it. Indy wasn't a superhero in Raiders (or ToD, which I really like) - he gets beaten up, he has limitations and flaws and there isn't so much goofy humour.

I still enjoyed CS, but you could see the bits of the film that Lucas had done - the gophers, the fridge, the swordfight, the tarzan bit and the ridiculous ants carrying body into next bit (which undercut that sequence a bit). Total Die Hard 4 syndrome.

I thought it was ok, although I didn't have high expectations going into it. In fact, I expected it to be terrible...I think that was the best approach to have, made it a pleasant surprise that it wasn't totally awful.

The dialogue was tongue in cheek, I didn't feel like they were taking themselves seriously at all, it would have been dreadful if they were. I think they must have known all along it was never going to live up to the first movies, so they didn't try to be serious about it. Or maybe that was just me.

I hated seeing how old Indie was, that just hurt! But, then again, I have age issues!! :-)

And, I really hated that it was aliens! Because, I don't really believe in them (sorry Gav!). Now, the voodoo and biblical stuff...that was scary! Cos, it just might be true. Aliens? I didn't buy it, and that was disappointing.

There is a much greater likelihood that life exists on other planets than there is that voodoo is anything but a load of fakery and myth... :p

And we won't even get into the fact that we know that the bible is suffering from a very bad case of chinese whispers at best.

I went to see it last night. I had already read your blog and Laura told me she'd walked out of the cinema it was so crap. And she had free tickets to see it. That meant I just went into it expecting it to be totally awful. So, I was pleasantly surprised. I agree that Indie looked absolutely terrible as an old man.

I also agree about the ants, the waterfall and most especially the tarzan bit.

The wedding at the end was typical Lucas. It was like the end of the second crap Star Wars film. I really wish someone would stand up to Lucas and tell him what crap dialogue he writes and how threadbare some of his stories are. That said, every time I was about to give up on this film I thought of Temple Of Doom and reminded myself far-fetched is not unusual in these films.

I can't wait to see the new Batman film, though! - Shane
